I have thick, coarse, curly hair. If you are like me, you know the struggles of having a wild, full mane of hair. I wouldn’t trade it for the world, but it does come with its challenges. But just as I have my hair struggles, I know there is someone else out there reading this with thin, stick straight hair that has its own issues. Here’s my oh so curly & thick hair!
I’m all about finding safer products to use when it comes to health & beauty. I want to be sure that the products I use on myself and family are safe – but I also want them to be effective! I wanted to share a few that I’ve come across recently. If you are on the lookout for a hair product with safer ingredients, I hope you find some of these helpful!
You all know I’m a big BC fan, and I love their extended line of hair care products. Beautycounter has some of the strictist ingredients standards in the industry. Beautycounter bans over 1,400 ingredients that are not proven safe. And of course, all BC hair products are sulfate free! Here are some standouts from the Beautycounter line…
Volume & Shape Shampoo & Conditioner – A great all around for many people
Repair & Nourish Shampoo & Conditioner – Moisturizing and great for dry hair (that’s me!)
Smooth & Control Shampoo & Conditioner – Helps smooth hair and tame frizz
Smooth & Control Hair Oil – I love this! I put this in my hair daily to add extra moisture & shine. It helps with the frizz.
I was recently sent some samples of the Monat line to try. This was my first experience with this company. Like Beautycounter, Monat focuses on creating safe products. While Monat has various products for multiple hair types, I tried a few of their more moisturizing products. I used the Rejuveniqe Oil Intensive Treatment, Renew Shampoo, Replenish Masque, Smoothing Deep Conditioner, and the Restore Leave In Conditioner. One great thing about Monat Shampoos & Conditioners is that they have a lot less water than typical products. This means that you use less product each time which means that they last longer.
I did love how all of these products worked, but I definitely loved the Rejuveniqe Oil. I put the oil in the night before and then in the morning I rinsed that and followed up with the rest of the line. And while I didn’t suddenly have shiny silky hair (lets be honest, that probably will never happen!), I did notice that my hair felt so SOFT. Normally it feels pretty dry/coarse, but it actually felt soft & smooth. That said, I probably won’t be buying this product because it is quite expensive. Based on the sample size (which I needed ALL of to do my thick hair), At $99 for a small bottle it would cost me $5 per use. Just not something I’m looking to invest in right now. So for now I’ll keep using my Beautycounter Smooth & Control Hair Oil which is larger, only $32 and will last me much longer.
But if you are looking for some intensive moisturizing, I do recommend looking into the Monat products.
3) Shea Moisture
I just love these! For the price, you can’t beat it. Plus, the Shea Moisture products are made with great ingredients (most score a 1-2 on the EWG Skin Deep database!) Here are my favorites…
Curl & Shine Shampoo – Great for curly hair 🙂 Of course…but also great for any drier hair.
Restorative Conditioner – I LOVE this. Very moisturizing.
Curl Enhancing Smoothie – This is labeled as a styling product but isn’t enought to keep my hair non frizz/poof all day. BUT I love it as a leave in treatment to add extra moisture to my hair.
Shea Moisture has many other products as well – these are just 3 I love and use a lot!
