Holiday = Busy Time

Last Sunday Dave and I ran a 5K race near where my mom lives. It worked out perfect since we celebrated Thanksgiving with family there on Saturday and then we spent the night there. That was nice since it saved us having to drive an hour before the race start of 8 am.

I have to admit that I was not as prepared for this race as I could have been. I had one week that I had done nothing and on top of that my knee was feeling some pain on my Tue run on race week. But the race went pretty well and part of that is due to the strength I’ve been gaining through my weight lifting/training. My legs are stronger than they were last time I raced.

My knee did hurt again starting at mile 2. However I was able to run and it didn’t even affect my form so it was not an issue.

But the great news is that I set a new 5K PR – 31:18 – a whopping 7 sec faster than my previous PR. πŸ˜‰ Hey I’ll take it! It was about 25 sec faster than the 5K I did in April. Dave cut 35 seconds off his PR! So proud of him!

It was a pretty nice morning for a run. It was 37ΒΊ but hardly any wind.

Here we are enjoying post-race relaxation. If we look tired, it’s because we are! πŸ™‚ I don’t think either of us slept as well as we could have the night before.

Our family members thought we were kind of crazy for waking up so early to go run in the cold but I’m glad we did it.  I always find races fun.  Its such an energizing environment with great people.

Sorry no finish line pics ~ Dave missed me coming over the finish line and the one from the pro-photographer has me looking like I’m about to die.  πŸ™‚  Its a seriously awful pic.  So instead I’ll share one of us together post-race.

So what’s next? I’m not sure. Due to the knee pain I decided to take this week off running. I still met my personal trainer 2 times this week and my knee was a bit weird on Mon when I saw her. By Tuesday it was fine though and our training on Wed went well.

For now I’m going to keep doing 2-3 miles to make sure all is well with all my parts. We’re contemplating a 5K race in February. It will be much colder here in Wisconsin once February rolls around.

I also only have 2 sessions plus a post assessment meeting with my trainer left & will miss meeting with her! I loved our sessions. I’m planning to sign up to do this again with a new student next semester but that won’t start until early February. So in the mean time I’ll have to keep working on strength at home. I guess this will be a good test for what I learned in the past 3 months!
